A prom... I remember going to mine, but that was a few years ago. I enjoyed myself. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely a fun sort of event even if this seems different than what I went to.

Anyway, I have two things I'd like to ask.

First, if there's anyone who wants something specifically made for them to wear to the prom, I'd like to let you know that I have some talent in fashion. I won't ask for too much right now, although certainly enough to cover the cost of materials and my time, but anything to help since my friend and I just arrived not too long ago... Well, it would be helpful to us.

As for my other question... [He pauses and sighs, shoulders slumping a little bit.] Does anyone have advice for someone trying to quite a bad habit? I'm afraid I might be slipping back into one of mine...

Garry, what's Prom mean?

Well... It's the sort of thing that would happen when you would be in high school. The school would hot a party, everyone would dress up nicely, and you'd go there to eat food and dance... things like that. It's a fun way to meet a lot of people.

Back home, people would vote for a prom queen and king, but it sounds like this is more like a regular party.

Ohhhh. But it's hard to dance in fancy clothes! Mother always tells me not to get them dirty.

It can be a little hard to, that is true... But they don't have to be really fancy for something like this, I think. I could also teach you how to dance, if you'd like.

[Even if he isn't exactly a dance instructor or something... But he can try, right?]

I was trying to stop smoking before I got here. I was trying to use lemon candy to help get myself to stop, but I'm afraid that isn't doing very much at all for me right now...

Lemon candy? Yeah, that'll just make your mouth feel like a raisin after awhile.

They do have nicotine patches here, I've seen 'em.

... They helped me a lot, when I was quitting.

They do? [The relief is practically leaking from him.] Oh thank goodness. I wasn't entirely certain what they would or wouldn't have here.

Considering how different it is here, it was something I was worried about. The last place I was... unexpectedly in wasn't so considerate.

Honestly, most things you could find in the regular modern world, you can probably find here. _{[... Well, if said modern world is anything like the one Heather's from, anyway. By this point, she's aware of the fact that there's a hell of a lot of worlds out there.]}

They might have different brand names, but they're around.

Well, it would depend on the kind of materials you'd want, and the kind of dress you'd like to wear... Did you have a particular idea in mind, Miss?

Something that fits right. [ Oops, that's a bit embarrassing to say out loud. ]

I mean.... urghhhhh since my arrival, I've been wearing clothes that fit strangely. I've grown out of them, so it'd be nice to have something fit for a proper lady for this event.

Yes, she is. We discussed it and she knows you're coming. I do hope the two of you become good friends. She could use someone a bit closer to her age.

You should try and associate the habit with something you dislike.

Something I dislike... I wonder if that may be a bit difficult. I halfway associate it with something that's helped me very much in some serious situations.

Exactly. That's why you need to retrain yourself to think of it as something that isn't helpful at all. Maybe even something that could hurt you.

Considering that it's smoking, it really should be easier to think of it that way, shouldn't it?

We once cured Beelze-nee of wanting to scarf down Ronove's cookies before they could make it to the tea table by snapping her with rubber bands whenever she whined about being hungry for them. They're one of the few things she still won't eat now...
